Deacon Nominations Class of 2027

The nomination period is now closed.

Beginning in 2024, the timeline of our Deacon Nomination Process has been moved up to April from August. We have made this change to provide our pastoral team more time to shepherd the nominees. Our goal is to have deacons who embody the ways of Jesus found in the early church in Acts - worship, community, service, generosity, and multiplication - while embracing the qualifications in 1 Timothy 3.

Johnson Ferry members may submit deacon nominations April 7-21, 2024.

Biblical qualifications for deacons are provided below, along with listings of those who are ineligible for nomination. Please prayerfully review the qualifications for these key offices before submitting your nominations.

NOMINATION OF DEACONS
  1. Definition of a Deacon: One who ministers or serves.
  2. Who may nominate Deacons: Johnson Ferry members may nominate up to 55 qualified members for the Jan 2025-Dec 2027 term. Nominees will be presented to the church for affirmation in the fall church conference.
  3. Biblical qualifications for Deacons are based on Acts 6:3-8 and 1 Timothy 3:8-13:
  1. Men of dignity (Acts 6:3, 1 Timothy 3:8): those whose reputations are above reproach.
  2. Integrity (1 Timothy 3:8): those who are honest in speech.
  3. Proven spiritual maturity (Acts 6:3, 1 Timothy 3:12): those full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom; men who have been tested in their faith.
  4. Dedicated to his family (1 Timothy 3:12): If married, a deacon must be faithful to his wife and manage his children and household well.
  5. Temperate (1 Timothy 3:3): those who are temperate in all areas of lifestyle and not controlled by addiction.
  6. Good steward of possessions (1 Timothy 3:8): those who are not greedy or pursuing dishonest gain. They should tithe through Johnson Ferry as a minimum.
  7. Faithfulness to biblical doctrines of the Christian faith (1 Timothy 3:9): They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.

The Class of 2024 is rotating off in December and is not eligible to serve in 2025. Those serving in the Classes of 2025 and 2026 will continue to serve and do not need to be nominated. The term of service is 3 years.

How to Nominate:

Members may submit online nominations for deacons through Sunday, April 21.

  • Maximum of 55 deacon nominations per member.
