One thing that I always looked forward to in the summer was swimming! Growing up, my family had a membership at the city pool. I even remember my membership number, 631. Isn't that crazy? Going to the pool was a big part of my childhood. My best friend and I would take our lunch and stay all day. Sometimes our moms would let us buy our lunch. She and I had matching swimsuits almost every summer. I could tell you so many stories. It brings back such wonderful memories. I accomplished some great feats at the pool, as well. The one I am most proud of is learning to dive into the pool.
Diving into the pool is harder than just jumping in the pool. It takes a bigger commitment because you are going head first. Once you dive head first, there's no changing your mind. You will definitely go under the water. Your entire body will get wet. Diving is cooler than just jumping in. If you are playing sharks and minnows, it definitely gives you an advantage of not being tagged and making it to the other side. Compare diving to your commitment to the Lord.
The Bible says Mark 12:30, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Key word is 'all'. Diving into your commitment to Jesus means going head first and being "all in" for the Lord. You can start by joining a 419 Group. In a 419 Group, you read and discuss scripture and pray for and encourage one another. Groups are small and the commitment is 4-6 weeks. These groups are helping people find truth, belonging, and purpose in Christ at Johnson Ferry.
I encourage you to dive into a 419 Group this fall and take a step of faith in your walk with the Lord. It definitely gives you an advantage in life. When you are 'tagged' by life's problems and the hurts of the world, it's good to know that we have an advantage over that. We can dive into God's word to make it to the other side.
