Subscribe August 2023 Excited for New School Year and we need you We are so excited about this new year. It's always fun to get out new school supplies, decorate rooms, and see kids move up to their new Sunday Group teachers and classes. At the beginning of the school year we are reminded of Paul's words in Philippians 1:3-6; "I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." What a joy and blessing it is in Children's Ministry to walk alongside you and your children in teaching truth, building belonging and providing purpose in Jesus. Our prayer is that this year your children grow in their faith and knowledge of how much God loves them and the truth that can be found in Jesus Christ. Teaching Truth, Building Belonging, Providing Purpose IN JESUS We need you! Volunteer today in Children's and/or Preschool! We are looking for caring adults who can serve in classrooms, or at greeter desks, administration helpers, and floaters. Opportunities available for both Sunday morning and Wednesday nights. August 6: We are Part of God's Kingdom; Matthew 22, Luke 14 Family Discussion Starters: Did everyone accept the king's invitation to the wedding feast? Who did come? Why was the one man thrown out of the wedding? What does Jesus clothe us in? (See Isaiah 61:10) Family Activity that relates to the message: Create invitations to invite your kids to a dinner party. Provide kids with a nice outfit to wear. During the dinner, discuss how Jesus invites us into His kingdom. Tell kids that we can only enter God's kingdom by faith in Jesus. Remind kids that Jesus clothes us in His righteousness. August 13: Jesus Knew He Would Be Rejected; Luke 13 Family Discussion Starters: Will everyone be saved? Why not? How are people saved? Why did Jesus cry over the city of Jerusalem? Family Activity that relates to the message: Using "The Gospel: God's Plan for Kids," create a video sharing the gospel presentation. Consider friends or family members you can share your video with. Then discuss how Jesus shared the gospel, even with people who rejected Him, and how we are called to share the good news of Jesus with all people. August 20: Jesus Raised Lazarus; John 11-12 Family Discussion Starters: What did Jesus say Lazarus' death would result in? What did Jesus say is true for all who believe in Him? Why do we always have hope, even in death? Family Activity that relates to the message: Discuss what it means when Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life." Then look up Jesus' six other "I am" statements in the Gospel of John (John 6:35, 8:12, 10:7, 10:11, 14:6, 15:1). Lead kids to create an I Am picture booklet to help them remember Jesus came to give us everlasting life. August 27: The World is Against God; Ephesians 6 Family Discussion Starters: Name each piece of armor Paul described. How does each piece help us stand strong against evil? Why is prayer an important part of our spiritual battle? How does knowing Jesus has victory over evil shape how we pray? Family Activity that relates to the message: Find items around your home that can represent each piece of armor. Help kids dress for battle and discuss why each item is important. Encourage kids to remember that God is stronger that evil and to be bold for Him. AUGUST 6 Main Point: Servant Leaders Are Careful About What They Say! Drew Laney Preteen Associate Missions and Wednesday Nights Wednesday Night GA & RA Programs Begin! We are so excited to kickoff Wednesday night GA & RA programs beginning Wednesday, August 6! If you are unfamiliar with GA (Girls in Action - for girls) and RA (Royal Ambassadors - for boys) programming, they are missional-focused programs where children learn the truths of Scripture, build community with peers, and learn about how to take these learn and experience and apply that to reaching others with the same truth/community for Christ. Children will be presented in age appropriate ways with how JFBC interacts with people and organizations locally, nationally, and internationally. There will be speakers and location-specific activities with some hands-on mission opportunities along the way. We are also looking to grow our GA/RA leader team! If you have interest in serving and helping children be on mission, please reach out to me and I would love to help you get plugged in! Our year ahead looks to be very exciting! Pre-register today! Move ATL JFBC's community outreach week, Move ATL, is the week of August 21-26 with various projects happening throughout the week and culminating in a big Saturday Send-Off (August 26) where there will be even more opportunities for all to serve! Children in GA's & RA's will have the opportunity to be a part of this week of service by attending their respective programs the Wednesday night of that week, but we encourage you as parents and families to be a part of other activities through the week, especially the big Saturday Send-Off! Be on the lookout for ways to serve by visiting The Hub and looking under the Local Missions header. Back to School Mission Outreach Encourage-Mints Supplies: small post-it notes, pen, individual mints, stapler, envelope School is back in session, making it a prime opportunity to reach out to others with the love and encouragement of Jesus. With your child, prepare these little encourage-mints as a way to help your child encourage their classmates, teachers, and/or staff at their school. Make as many or as few as you/your child desire. On a small post-it note, write out a short, encouraging Bible verse (examples: Psalm 34:8, Proverbs 18:10, Isaiah 26:3, Isaiah 41:13, Romans 15:13, Philippians 4:13, Philippians 4:19, 2 Thessalonians 3:16, 1 Peter 5:7). Staple the post-it note to the plastic surrounding the individual mint(s). Place the encourage-mints in an envelope for easy (and organized) access. Place the envelope in your child's backpack. Encourage your child to not give out these encourage-mints all at once, but at various times when they see a classmate, teacher, or school staff need encouragement. It could be that the mints are given out at different points throughout a given day or here/there as the days go by -- however the Lord leads your child. As you work with your child to prepare these encourage-mints, pray ahead for those who will receive them and that Christ's hope and peace will flood through their hearts and they would be encouraged to look to Him for their strength.
